LEETR Childcare |
About LEETRLee has 20 years experience in the childcare industry and a passionate belief in providing children the opportunity to learn through play, experiment and explore at their own pace. Through this website, she aims to share many of the resources that she has built up over the years. Lee’s philosophyBirth begins our journey, a wonderful time of discovery for all of us. Over the next year we will change faster than at any other time in life. We will develop from the beginning where we are so dependant to having our own special characteristics, interests and preferences. Much of our early development is a natural process. It is a sequence through which all babies progress at their own rate. However, a child’s development can be affected by their surroundings and the quality of care they receive. A stimulating atmosphere where the child has the opportunity to develop gross motor, fine motor, pre-language, social and emotional skills can enhance the child’s early learning. A sterile environment can slow the development of the child and become a disadvantage. As a child gets older they still need the opportunities to develop and this should continue through their development. If a child does not have the opportunity to develop in all areas this could later show up in their life. For example, if a child walks before it crawls they may have writing problems because their fine motor skills have not been developed. Fine motor skills are developed from the shoulder down to the hands. This is just one of many examples where childhood development is important. We could just let a child develop naturally but studies show a child’s development would be limited. Childhood development is very important in a child’s life: it allows the child every opportunity to develop their potential. There are many studies and theories on childhood development defining the importance of this work. As carers, we should provide all these opportunities for the child to develop. Each child is a unique individual and has much to offer. They need unconditional love and respect as an individual. Children learn through the opportunities they are given and should have ample time to learn through play, experimentation and exploration all at their own pace. As we go through life we are all still learning. As carers, we need to regularly update our skills and keep up with the latest information available. Families are valuable in our community and I encourage families to be involved in their child’s early learning and development.
